Extreme Sports - The BMX and Motocross Pyramid Challenge, X-Games for The Insane

The future of extreme BMX and Motocross Pyramid Challenges considered. Over the course of my studies into human sports, extreme sports, and adrenal rushes I've come up with many potential scenarios for new extreme sporting death defying feats which would wow crowds, and cause a cheer of thunder throughout any pavilion or stadium. Man and machine versus the impossible dream jump is what I'm talking about.

Bike Beamer

Now then, let me explain my latest scheme, one which will one day be performed and is sure to make headlines on ESPN, or draw in sponsors such as Red Bull to host. I've decided to call this the BMX or Free Style Motocross Challenge. Here is how it will work, but first let me help you visualize what I am talking about by jogging your memory a little bit. Do you remember seeing the motorcycle ramps which send the bike and rider straight up in the air.

Bike Beamer

Generally these are used so the rider can do multiple back flips and then land on the other side of the same ramp going basically straight down. The ramps are set up like hyperbolic curves back to back, kind of like the stock market and economy prior to the global economic crash of 2008. Okay, you get the picture right? Well, now picture a pyramid scheme, four-sided with each side with hyperbolic curved ramps.

Now picture many of these peaks with four sides, so as soon as the rider goes up one and comes back down he/she or "it" can choose another to take ("it" being an Artificially Intelligent motocross robotic android - don't worry I'll leave that for another article).

Every other four-sided pyramid ramp will be diagonal at that base, so as the ride comes all the way back down to the flat, he'll have to slightly turn at an angle to plot the correct trajectory to the next vertical launching point, in his/her/it aerial dance for the crowd. Are you beginning to see why this will become the ultimate in extreme sports, after all one screw up and you are done for, again to the roar of the crowds, and the next viral YouTube video, where the rider with all his/her broken bones can watch from their iPad 4G tablet in the hospital.

Okay too dramatic for you? Too dangerous, yes, indeed, it is, but realize extreme sports of this type are not for the weak, we don't have to do it, we can watch from the stands and our large screen 3D holographic living room entertainment centers. Please consider all this.

Different Forms of Roller Skating

Roller skating individually, on a team or just with a special group or someone can be very rewarding.

Bike Beamer

One type of roller skating that can be performed by an individual, a team, pair or a group is called Jam skating. Jam skating is a form of freestyle. Can you break-dance? Now, can you do it wearing a pair of roller skates? Jam skating is not just break-dancing it is much more. It is a combination of dance, gymnastics and skating.

Bike Beamer

Basically, Jam skating gets its roots from Roller Disco, only now it combines all of the disco moves with break-dance moves, artistic type moves, gymnastics and even modern dance moves. Put all this together as a routine performed with music and you have Jam Skating

I would recommend that you go on You Tube and check out some of the Jam Skating and see if it is something that would interest you. Tony Zane and Diamond Walker are two of the most renowned individual jam skaters. Most competitions usually come down to them having a skate off.

Another form of roller skating that you may want to look into is Vertical roller skating. Vertical skating is and can be performed in a bowl, on ramps, or just what you see on the street. Using the bowl for Vertical, the skater uses the bowl to get momentum and shoots out the other side performing a trick in the air. The Ramp form of vertical skating is pretty much just like you see in the Olympic Skateboard events, however more stunts can be performed because you don't lose contact with your skates. During this a skater would be performing a series of tricks or moves rated with difficulty levels while transiting down the distance of the ramp, or should I say navigating across the ramp.

Not enough adrenalin for you, Jump into the Big Air completion. Extremely steep ramps are used to obtain momentum and shoot you out the top of the other side. The objective is to be as smooth as possible to get as much air as you can while performing a trick or a series of tricks. Good Luck!

A wild and very dangerous type of vertical skating I am sure you have seen bits of it being performed on bikes, skate-boards, quad roller skates and or inline skates either in person or on the television. This type of skating is performed usually outdoors on anything and whatever is available to get some sliding and air. Man kind has provided these skaters with a wide range of challenges by building curbs, walkways, walls and handrails. A word of caution here is needed because this is a very extreme type of skating and usually a person visit's the emergency room at least once while learning.

There are some rinks and other areas designed for this type of skating and even some competitions being held. Some BMX tracks are even used for vertical skating.

Of course if you just want Vertical competition then try rolling the low and high hurdles. Yes, just like running then.

I guess the bottom line is, Roller Skating can have something appealing to just about everyone so Pick out the area that interest you and let's get rolling.

A Brief History of BMX Bikes

BMX (bicycle motocross) racing has come a long way since it was first conceptualized. In fact, the humble origins of the sport are often cited as stemming from the motocross documentary, On Any Sunday, which opened in 1971. The opening scenes of that movie followed kids on their Schwinn Sting-Ray bicycles riding dirt tracks and imitating motocross riders.

Bike Beamer

Of course, those scenes were based on something that was already taking place. Generally it is recognized that BMX as a sport found its footing in California. The bicycle races were predominantly composed of kids who had the desire to participate in motocross but could not afford it. Instead, these riders would groom their own dirt courses and use their bikes. Today's BMX racing tracks, with inline starts and expressive obstacles, trace back to this origin.

Bike Beamer

While ever since the invention of the bicycle there have been those who attempted innovations and tricks, most bikes up until this point were designed primarily as a means of transportation. Schwinn's Sting-Ray changed that. The Sting-Ray was released in 1963 at a time when custom cars and motorbikes were becoming popular. It was custom-built for riding off-road at high speeds and landing jumps. These bikes became popular fast, and quickly became one of the best-selling bikes in the country. Afterward, more manufacturers took note and began designing bicycles with similar custom features, such as twenty-inch wheels.

As custom bikes continued to grow in popularity and design evolution, riders continued to test the limits of what they could do. As this trend continued into the 1980s, BMX came to be about more than just racing. Riders began to perform skateboard-style tricks, and this is how the freestyle division of BMX was born. As a result, new bikes were designed to provide optimal conditions for performing increasingly difficult tricks.

By the 1990s, the sport was nearly ubiquitous. BMX was featured as a major part of the X-Games on ESPN. That trend has continued to the present day, where BMX racing is bigger than ever. The sport has grown to have its own international governing body, and BMX races took place as an Olympic sport for the first time in 2008.

Along with the sport, the bikes themselves have continued to evolve. Anyone interested in BMX biking today has a high and diverse number of bikes available. Which bike is best for you depends on how you plan to ride.

In essence, BMX bikes are simply a type of mountain bike designed to excel on off-road surfaces. These bikes feature 18- to 24-inch wheels and are designed to be lightweight and durable. Their design makes them particularly suited for racing and tricks.

There are actually three forms of BMX racing, with specially designed bikes in each category; namely, racing, freestyle and jumping bikes. Whether you want to race competitively or just have fun on homemade trails, these categories can still be helpful for determining which kind of bike is best for you.

Racing BMX designs are made specifically with the idea of speed in mind. They are composed of lightweight frames and feature customized tires designed to excel on off-road surfaces.

Freestyle bikes are very sturdy, with thick frames and pavement-ready BMX tires. These bikes are best for riding in skate parks, where you can learn and practice stunts and tricks.

Finally, jump bikes feature strong, sturdy frames, capable suspension systems and knobby tires. As the name suggests, they are meant to handle jumps comfortably, whether that be as part of a circuit or a homemade jump in the backyard. These bikes are also good on trails.

If you are just starting out riding off-road at high speeds, then you may want to start with a racing BMX, as these allow you to get out on the track and will have you learning the basics in no time. It is also never a bad idea to contact your local bike shop to get advice on which bike will work for your purposes and with your build.

In addition to these categories, bicycle customization is becoming more widely accessible. This allows you to tailor your bike to your specific racing and aesthetic desires. Whether you want a bike you can occasionally take off-road at high speeds, or you are looking to become a devoted BMX racer, today's BMX rider has more biking options available than ever before.

About Planet Bike
In November of 1996, Planet Bike was founded in Madison, Wisconsin. In many ways, Planet Bike began as a social experiment that dedicated itself to doing business in a different way. Instead of being just another company that develops and sells products with profit as its end goal, Planet Bike wanted to help bring about positive change for people, their communities, and the environment.

Despite being a simple machine, the people at Planet Bike have always believed that the bicycle has great potential to help improve the world and the lives of the people in it. From the start, they have embraced an alternative corporate purpose which seeks to help get more people on bicycles by making communities friendlier places for the self-propelled. By donating 25% of company profits to causes that promote and facilitate bicycle usage, Planet Bike hopes to make an impact.

Social experiments aside, Planet Bike was born from the heart of a cyclist with a goal of making innovative, high quality, and practical bicycle accessories. Simply put, they strive to design and develop the best bicycle products in the world. In the company's short ten year history, they have made important product innovations within the bicycle industry. Advancements include the 4-line computer which is now a standard in the industry and the world's first self-contained HID light. Not bad for a company that ten years ago started as a one man operation. Today, while still a small company, Planet Bike continues to evolve and improve their product line with the goal of always striving to build accessories that make it easier for people to ride their bikes. Since 1996, Planet Bike's financial support of the grassroots bicycle movement has totaled 0,000. By 2010, they have made a goal to donate million to organizations that are dedicated to making America a friendlier place for cyclists.

Extreme Bike Crashes in Races

Motor bike racing sometimes produces some of them most extreme bike crashes ever caught on camera. Because of the nature of the speed and relatively vulnerable state of the cyclists it is easy to lose control and cause an extreme accident. Most motorcycle races involve speeds over a hundred miles an hour. At that velocity, all it takes is a slight turn in the wrong direction in a steep turn to create a devastating accident. Precautions are taken in motor bike design and in the bikers' suits to prevent serious injury from motorbike crashes, but still there is very little that can be done to stop a 200 mph crash from turning ugly.

Bikers train from years to handle their bikes under pressure. With a two ton bike underneath you going at over 150 mph, there is a lot of force to deal with. Apart from the velocity, you have factors like wind, rain, pitch, and other bikers to deal with. Many accidents are due to the close range of other bikers. A small nudge in the right direction is the last thing a bike racer needs from his buddies. Some of the most extreme bike crashes happen right when a group of racers are bunched in the inner ring fighting for the inner circle. There is more chance of crashes in extreme weather changes as well.

Bike Beamer

With pads for their knees, ankles, bottom, shoulders, elbows and back, bikers are fairly well protected. While a number of bikers die every year due to bike accidents, many of them live to tell the tale. So many bikers have suffered serious accidents, only to walk off the race track in frustration of losing another race. Precautions in the making of racing bikes also ensure that the bikes do not burst into flames or explode due to crashing.
